Smartphones with decent cameras seem to be one of the better ideas to insure that you always have a camera close at hand. Does the same thing apply to cameras on the iPad 2 and other tablets or are they just dumb?

Even though the camera on the iPad 2 is not exactly at the top of the heap, there is at least one app for Apple’s new tablet (FX Photo Studio) that gives the user a lot of tools and a great gesture interface for photo editing.

A new smartphone app and Web site named ‘Color’ are based almost entirely on the photograph, but it does not seem to have much to offer except someplace to display photos that the entire world can see.

Cameras were the “missing ingredient” pointed out most often when the original iPads were launched this year. Perhaps to make up for that, the new iPad 2 comes with two cameras, one front and one rear.

Apparently, the better of the two cameras in the new Apple iPad 2 has set a record of sorts, although not one that is likely to make anyone proud. Still, it is a first and should be recognized as such.

Speaking of the iPhone 4 camera, as we have a bit lately, one of the things you don’t get as a feature is anti-shake. Developers have tried before, but a new app called gyroCam does the job and makes the iPhone 4 steadier.

The camera on the iPhone 4 is more than just the camera you always have with you. It is a very nice photo device in it own right. Tap to focus and zoom are two of the major improvements in this camera.
