Mamiya DM22 and DM28 get price tags that could choke a horseThe new DM22 from Mamiya sure is a nice looking camera, but are you ready to pay more for it than the cost of some cars?

The Mamiya DM22 has a price tag of $9,995 (because they knew no one would go for an even $10K), and while it is an impressive unit, the price is a bit hard to get past.  It does include a Mamiya 80mm f/2.8 D Series lens, so at least it isn’t just the body you’re paying for.

As the name implies, the DM22 is sporting 22 megapixels, shooting RAW format files at 5356×4056.  The ISO range is 25-400 with 12 f-stops.

The second camera announced was the Mamiya DM28. The only difference is that it shoots 28 megapixels at 6144×4622 with 44×33 mm with an ISO range of 50-800. It will set you back $14,990.  So you may want to start searching your couch for pennies to pick up either of these units.

I’m not quite sure what the problem is with the price….last time I checked Hasselblad has twice or 3 times the amount…so why the negativity on Mamiya? In my opinion this is a good entry for serious/working photographers to go the medium format route. Myself included, have been shooting 135 format for years now, with the onset of digital, and the greatly reduced prices on Mamiya’s digital backs, it’s no longer a dream.
