Deutsche Telekom launches stock photography site in the UK
Stock photography has become a booming business for photographers in the age of the Internet, and while most of the sites have been based in the United States, a new site has opened up with a more European slant to it.
Polylooks.co.uk is the newest joint-venture from Polylooks and Deutsche Telekom, the company more commonly known as T-Mobile in the cell phone market. While the stock photo agency has already been operating in Germany for some time now, this is the first time it has ventured outside of its native homeland to offer up its ever growing collection of photos.
Up until now, the majority of stock photography sites have been based in the United States, and that has of course led to a very American slant to the images that offered. The new U.K. version of Polylooks is looking to increase the number of British based images it has to offer, and has already surpassed 35,000 images with an additional 20,000 coming from U.K. partner Monkey Business Images.
“Talented amateur and professional photographers alike can make money easily from their images using Polylooks. The market for microstock photos is growing as demand from an increasingly digital economy rises, and Europe has traditionally been under served by this industry,” said Norbert Weber, Product Manager, Polylooks. He went on to add, “Polylooks aims to become the best site for the corporate and creative industries, enabling decision-makers to source photo material that expresses a European look and feel.”
Photographers who post their images on Polylooks on a non-exclusive basis will earn 35 cents (U.S. dollars) per sale, and those who opt to use the site exclusively will see that commission increase to 50 cents. People looking to purchase images will pay between £1 and £15 depending on the size, and those wishing a merchandising license will pay a maximum of £50.
