Pentax Optio M85 is a simple 12 megapixel camera for the masses
You know the holiday shopping season is upon us when the point and shoot camera models are flowing like water out of the manufacturers’ doors. The Pentax Optio M85 looks to be a prime example of this.
When the press release is entitled “PENTAX Optio M85: Simple and stylish”, you know that a company was aiming for the low-end release. Add in the fact the release is exactly two paragraphs, and you almost wonder why it was even announced.
Thus far the Optio M85 is only mentioned as a U.K. release, and no suggested retail price was mentioned in the super short release, but we can’t imagine it is going to be more than $200 (U.S. dollars), if even that. Â About the most interesting thing about this unit is that is is only 19mm thick, so it would make a great carry around camera for your back pocket, in a woman’s purse, in a shirt pocket and so on. Â Of course we know you aren’t going to get true 12 megapixel clarity from a unit of this size, but it still should take decent enough party and bar photos.

While this unit won’t set any high-end photographer’s hearts to beating, it would make a great stock stuffer above the mantle piece this Christmas for your teenager or child going off to college in the near future.
