Sony introduces full-frame digital SLR for the budget minded
Sony has announced a new full-frame digital SLR that, while still not cheap, may help consumers finally cross-over from the point and shoot cameras of old.
The new Sony Alpha A850 is a welcome addition to the Sony DSLR lineup as it now allows the company to offer cameras for everyone from the amateur enthusiast to the high-end professional.
Now, this isn’t to say you are still going to be able to pick up the A850 for cheap, the body alone is going to sell for around $2,000, but compared to the $3,000 for the A900, it isn’t bad. For your money you are going to get a 24.6 megapixel sensor, 35-mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor and fast image processing with dual BIONZ processing engines. However, where the A900 can shoot at five frames per second, the A850 will only be able to do three. Still more than enough for most amateur photographers.
To help up your game, once you press the depth of field preview button, the camera will grab a RAW preview image which will be displayed on the LCD screen. Once you have that you can then fine tune white balance, determine the best level and effect of dynamic range optimization, adjust exposure compensation and check histogram data, all before you actually take the picture. Preview images are not recorded on the camera’s memory card, thus saving capacity.
