Rollei launches three new old school scanners

Rollei launches three new old school scannersDo you remember slides? Well, apparently Rollei is hoping you do as the company has launched three new scanners in Europe, two of which are directed mainly at handling slides.

While slides were once a mainstay of the photo industry, especially with public relations companies giving photo artwork to print publications, they have fallen out of favor over the years.  However, it seems someone forgot to inform Rollei of this as they are launching three new scanners for the European market.

Rollei, a German camera manufacturer founded in 1920, announced the P-S 100 which will give you one-button scanning without the need for a computer involved in the mix.  You can scan anything up  to 5-by-7-inches.  The DF-S 110 and DF-S 110 are the ones that leave you scratching your head a bit as they are focused on scanning slides.    Why any one needs a stand-alone slide scanner in this day and age is a bit of a mystery.  Scanners for years have included the ability to scan slides, haven’t they pretty much all been scanned by this point.

The P-S 100 and DF-S 110 will have suggested retail prices of €149.95, while the DF-S 100 will be available for €129.95.  There is no word on when or if these will be released in the United States.

Most home scanning solutions lack the precision of specialized slide scanners to give a really good pictures. That’s where these could come in useful if you have lots of films laying around.
