Fujifilm Launches FinePix Real 3D System
High definition just not enough for you any more? Then Fujifilm has the answer for you with its new FinePix Real 3D System.
The FinePix Real 3D W1 will be launching this September, and it will allow you to shoot both 3D still images and movies. Best of all, no goofy glasses will be required to view your newly captured moments in the full three dimensions.
Using two Fujinon lenses, the camera will synchronize two images that you can view either on the 800 x 600 LCD screen built into the camera, or on the FinePix Real 3D V1 viewer which will be sold separately.
The camera boasts some unique features that weren’t really possible with 3D photography in the past. First off, it boasts 3X optical zoom which had previously been difficult with this type of photography since the images have to be synched up. Secondly, it has a feature called “Interval Shooting” which will allow the camera to remain in motion while shooting an image. Say you want to take a 3D image of the countryside while in a moving train, or of a cloud formation from your airplane seat, this feature will let you accomplish that.
Standard 2D photography will also receive nice bells & whistles such as shooting the same image with both lenses, but using different settings on each. This will allow you to choose the better of the two shots when you review them, removing some of the initial guesswork from that narrow window of time when you actually shoot them. There will also be a feature called ”Tele+Wide Shooting” which will allow one lens to shoot zoomed in while the other has a wider angle.
The one major drawback to the system is going to be making prints of your 3D images. Due to the complexity of the printing process, Fujifilm is setting up a processing system which will require you to send them the files to do any printing that you want done. While no price has been announced for printing yet, it isn’t too difficult to imagine that it isn’t going to be cheap.
No price has been announced for the FinePix Real 3D W1 as of yet, but estimates are running in the $600 range.
