Casio set to launch 12.1 megapixel EX-H10 ultra-compact in Japan this summer

It seems that 12 megapixels is the new bar for compact cameras, and Casio is set to match that in Japan in July.

The Exilim EX-H10 isn’t just a mouthful to say, but it is also has a mouthful of features for an ultra-compact.  According to DC Watch (via Engadget) this new entry in to the consumer market will hit Japanese electronics stores first in July, with no word yet when it will be coming to the shores of the United States.

While high megapixel numbers can be meaningless in compacts, this unit will still be in the 12.1 MP range, but it has some other nice features backing it up.  The 24-mm wide-angle lens also has a 10X zoom with a CCD-shift sensor with up to ISO 3200 sensitivity, so the pics should end up crisp hopefully with little to no blurring.  The built in memory is only 35.7 MBs, so while you won’t be able to capture much without an SDHC card, at least it gives you something for those awkward moments when the card is out for whatever reason.

Video is also supported at 1,280 × 720 pixels / 24fps in Motion-JPEG with stereo sound, but one can’t imagine the audio being that clear in a body this size.  The LCD on the back measures in at a nice 3” so framing shouldn’t be a problem.

Pricing is set at Â¥40,000, approximately $400 at current exchange rates, when it hits retail shelves, and will be available in both gray and hot pink color choices.  Still not a professional camera, but sounds like it will be a nice choice for those times where a DSLR just isn’t an option.
