Nikon D5000 DSLR officially announced with 720p HD video recording
After months of rumors, leaked pictures, and photographer’s dreams, Nikon has officially announced the Nikon D5000. The 12.3-megapixel DSLR is capable of shooting 720p high definition video clips at 24fps, and has a vari-angle LCD monitor that can be rotated, swiveled out, and adjusted to meet the needs of a particular shot.
“The Nikon D5000 represents a cornerstone in Nikon’s D-SLR line, marrying simplicity and instructive features with superior technology and HD video, allowing the user’s ability and creativity to grow—with the camera,” said Edward Fasano, General Manager for marketing, SLR System Products at Nikon Inc. “While its easy-to-use design will attract first-time D-SLR photographers, the D5000’s rich feature set and high performance will also appeal immediately to more experienced enthusiasts. The D5000 is sure to inspire creativity and originality.”

The camera is meant to be an entry-level DSLR that replaces the D40 and D60 in Nikon’s camera lineup. The camera has an ISO range from 200-3200, with special expansion options that include a Lo 1 setting of TSO 100 and a Hi 1 setting of ISO 6400. The real addition of note to the camera is the ability to record high-definition video clips. Many DSLR manufacturers have started adding high-definition video capture to their cameras this past year, while the addition of video recording to the D5000 isn’t exactly a surprise it is a relatively new feature for the DSLR market as a whole. Along with the addition of high-definition video recording Nikon has added an HDMI out port on the camera which would allow you to connect the camera to a television and watch your videos.
The kit version of the D5000 comes with Nikon’s AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens and should hit store shelves in late April for an estimated price of $849.95. if you’re not interested in the lens, or need to save some cash the D5000 body will be sold without the lens for $729.95 You can pre-order the camera kit6 now from Amazon.
