Create personalized flash cards with Goosie Cards

By Emily Price

goosiecardsRemember working with flash cards while you were in school? What if those flash cards actually had pictures of “real” things you encountered in your everyday life on them? Goosie Cards is a company that takes your pictures and turns them into flash cards your children can use to learn with.

With PMA set to start next week my mailbox (both email and actual mailbox) has been slammed with tons of advertisements from camera and camcorder manufacturer as well as people who make all kinds of nonsense that has some tie to the photography industry. I received a solicitation from Goosie Cards in my actual mailbox a few days ago, and you know…it’s a good idea.

Goosie Cards allows parents to take their own personal photos and then turn those pictures into educational flash cards for their kids. So while you could just show your child a flash card with a picture of a dog on it- you could also show your child a flash card with a picture of YOUR dog on it.

All of the cards are made of heavy card stock and are laminated so you can wipe them clean if they manage to get dirty. The one downside is, they’re not cheap.  Ten cards will set you back $28, 20 cards $40, and 26 cards $46. Unless you’re making cards for something your child is going to use often (or you have a ton of extra cash to burn) the customized cards might not be the most economical choice.

Regardless it’s a pretty nifty idea. I really like that the option to create customized cards is out there. If you had some thing (like maybe family members names?) that you would use the cards over and over again for it could be a pretty decent investment.

What ideas can you think of to create personalized flash cards?
