Canon Powershot IXUS SD790 and SD1200: the slimmest Canon cameras ever
Canon has announced the PowerShot SD780 IS and PowerShot SD1200 IS. The two cameras are part of the companies IXUS line, and feature ultra-smart technology and the slimmest design ever in a Canon camera.
For the most part, both of the cameras have relatively the same specs. The SD780 has a 12-megapixel resolution, and the SD1200 has a 10-megapixel resolution – but other than that the cameras have some of the same features, and even the same body style.
Canon SD780
The SD780 takes pictures at a 12.1-megapixel resolution, has a 3x optical zoom, and optical image stabilization. The camera has the ability to record high-definition video and has HDMI out so you can playback the videos you shoot directly on your HDTV. The camera has a 2.5-inch PureColor LCD and Smart AUTO functionality.
Smart AUTO automatically decides what the proper settings for your camera should be, and automatically put it in the correct shooting mode from the cameras pre-set 18 shooting situations.
Another pretty cool feature of the SD780 is face detection. The camera can track the faces of moving subjects within a picture and also allows the person taking the picture to get into the shot, waiting to take it until everyone is ready.
The SD780 will be available in red, black, silver, and gold in March for an suggested retail price of $279.99.
Canon SD1200
The SD1200 is a 10-megapixel camera with a 2.5-inch LCD screen and DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Much like the SD780 the camera has Canon’s Face Detection to track faces of people within a shot as well as the Smart AUTO function that help you use the correct settings when taking pictures.
The SD1200 will be available in dark grey, blue, pink, green, light gray, and orange in March as well for an suggested retail price of $229.99.

I have always had good luck with canons. I wish that they would put just a bit more optical zoom on the small pocket cameras. I currently use the canon sd500, and have so for many years. When it is time to upgrade I will certainly go with canon again. Thanks for the great info about sd780 and sd1200
