Canon Powershot SX200 IS: a lot of zoom for a compact camera
Canon is showing off a new compact camera that packs quite a punch in the zoom department. The Canon Powershot SX200 IS takes pictures at a 12.1-megapixel resolution, and has a 12x optical zoom, much higher than the 3 and 4x zooms that cameras this size typically have.
One really cool feature of the SX200 is its ability to record high-definition video. In addition to taking tons of high-resolution pictures you also have the opportunity to capture your memories in video form with the compact camera. The camera can record 720p resolution video and has an HDMI connection so you can playback any videos you do shoot instantly on any HDTV.
“With a combination of high zoom power, high resolution and High Definition video capability, the PowerShot SX200 IS lets you capture your adventures in uncompromising detail,” said Rainer Fuehres, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe.
Another great feature in the camera is its Smart Auto mode. The mode automatically analyzes the situation in a particular area where you are shooting and adjusts the camera accordingly. So for instance if you were shooting pictures outside a night the camera might automatically put itself in night mode to take the shots.
The camera is capable of storing pictures and video onto SD, SDHC, and MMC cards. It also supports MMCPlus and HC MMCplus card formats.
The most amazing this about the camera is definitely its zoom. Compact pocket-sized cameras typically have exceptionally low zooms. With a 12x optical zoom, the SX200 offers one of the highest optical zooms in an ultra-compact camera available. That zoom coupled with the high-definition video recording capability makes it an ideal choice for people who are looking for something small to carry around with them in a pocket or purse on their travels.
The Powershot SX200 IS will be available in black, blue, and red later on this year.
