Fujifilm’s F200EXR uses a new Super CCD EXR sensor

By Emily Price

fujifilm1The FujiFilm F200EXR is a 12-megapixel camera with a 5x optical zoom. The big stand-out feature about this camera however is that it uses a new Super CCD EXR sensor which selects the scene mode that the camera will use to take a particular picture as well as the shooting mode, based on the particular setting in which you’re taking a photo.

The first shooting mode available on the F200EXR is Fine Capture, which takes pictures at a 12-megapixel resolution. The next mode, Pixel Fusion Mode takes pictures at a 6-megapixel resolution and it puts two different pixels (taken in two separate pictures at two separate ISO’s) together into the same picture order to lower the overall noise levels of the photos and increase ISO. Finally Dual Capture takes two different photographs at two different exposures and then combines the two together to form one 6-megapixel photograph.

The idea is that now that it has started to be easy to make high-megapixel cameras cheaply, now it’s time to improve the quality of those photos from a different standpoint. The new EXR sensor in many ways does that, and offers consumers more option on how to effectively take a high-quality photograph.

In addition to the new sensor the camera has face detection, what has almost become a standard in consumer cameras now-that can recognize up to ten people in one picture. That means if you’re taking a large group shot, the camera will be able to pick out ten faces and make sure they all look good and are in focus before you take a picture.

One other neat feature of the camera is the Film Simulation Mode which allows you take shoot video with the camera that actually looks like it was shot on film.

The Fujifilm F200EXR is expected to be released later this month with a price tag around $400.
