Panasonic announces three affordable point-and-shoot cameras
By Emily Price
Panasonic is showing off three new point-and shoot cameras, the DMC-FS15, DMC-FS7, and DMC-LS85. All three cameras will have price tags under $200, and are designed to cater toward consumers who want a nice camera but don’t have a substantial amount of money to spend on one.
DMC-FS15
The DMC-FS15 takes pictures at a 12.1 megapixel resolution and has a 5x zoom lens. The camera has a slew of automatic options as well as Intelligent Exposure, Intelligent ISO control, and Intelligent Scene Selector along with face detection. The camera is expected to be released in blue, black, and silver in March.
DMC-FS7
The DMC-FS7 takes pictures at a 10.1 megapixel resolution and has a 4x zoom. The camera has optical image stabilization and an intelligent auto button to help assist users in taking pictures. The DMC-FS7 is expected to be available in pink, green, blue, black, and silver in March.
DMC-LS85
The DMC-LS85 takes photos at an 8.1 megapixel resolution and has a 4x zoom. The camera has optical image stabilization, Intelligent ISO control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and face detection. You can pick up the camera in pink, silver, and black in April.
There have been quite a few cameras released this year that are starting to put high megapixels in models that could be considered “affordable.” At under $200 a piece, all of these cameras are much more in terms of features and megapixels than you could have gotten for three times the price just a few years ago.
It’s exciting to start to see digital cameras coming within the price range of more consumers. Have the price drops made you consider upgrading your digital camera before you might have otherwise? How cheap do you think we’ll see digital cameras get over the next few years?
