BuyThisImage is an online sales partner for professional photographers. Photographers can put the BuyThisImage widget on their Web site or blog, and then site visitors can use the widget to streamline the process of purchasing prints of the photographs. As a photographer you can choose to offer a variety of different print sizes or specialty items with your picture on them and adjust prices for the items (although some basic price guidelines are pre-set by BuyThisImage).
The site offers prints ranging from 5 x 7 to 8 x 12 of images, enlargements up to 24 x 36, canvas prints from 11 x 14 to 30x 40, mouse pads, mugs, T-shirts, stamps, and greeting cards. BuyThisImage takes an 18 percent cut of your final purchase price for your images (a 15 percent commission and 3 percent credit card transaction fee). Prices for items are set at fairly reasonable amounts. if you’re doing something fancy like art photography you can set your own price points and make more off the sale of each print.
As a semi-professional photographer, I’m always looking for better ways to sell my photos. BuyThisImage looks to be a pretty decent way to sell pictures and other products without having to deal with the printing and shipping prices yourself. Currently I sell prints directly off my Web site, but once an order is placed I have to go print the image personally and then package the item and mail it to the buyer. This service certainly makes the process a lot easier for the photographer; essentially all you have to do it sit back and wait for your checks to start rolling in.
One downside of the site is there is no gallery where potential new buyers can find your work. The only sales you are going to make from BuyThisImage is traffic off your own personal blog or Web site, while while it may be plentiful, it would be nice to able to gain some exposure for your images from the service as well.
