Photo District News has announced their picks for “Photography Gear of the Year.” The site has made some picks for the camera of the year as well as the lens, printer, computer, laptop, storage device, and monitor of the year for professional photographers. While most of these items are out of the price range (and the needs) of amateur photographers and consumers, it’s interesting to see what earned top honors.

BuyThisImage is an online sales partner for professional photographers. Photographers can put the BuyThisImage widget on their Web site or blog, and then site visitors can use the widget to streamline the process of purchasing prints of the photographs. As a photographer you can choose to offer a variety of different print sizes or specialty items with your picture on them and adjust prices for the items (although some basic price guidelines are pre-set by BuyThisImage).
ContrastMaster offers three local and four global contrast adjustment methods as well as various masking, saturation and brightness options. The three local adjustment methods allow you to dramatically improve contrast in small image details without blowing out highlights or damaging the image. You can apply these three methods separately or use various options to mix them together for even better results.
Photodex has released its new ProShow Producer software, the software now in it’s fourth release is designed for users who want to create professional looking photo slideshows for their business, or professional portfolio. The program allows you to export your final product to play back on a television, the web, or on a Blu-ray disc and has a variety of pre-created templates to make making a professional looking slideshow as quick and easy as possible.
If you’re taking pictures with a high megapixel camera, then you more than likely have ended up with a substantial amount of your hard drive filled with high resolution pictures. While high resolution shots are great when you want to print pictures out, they can be a pain when you want to send pictures via email or save a sizable amount of shots to a small key drive or digital photo frame.
Tilt Shift photography is making it’s way into art galleries all over the world, and now onto the iPhone. TiltShift is a type of photography that essentially allows you to take a picture and make the surroundings look like tiny models. For instance a picture of building with little miniature people moving outside.
