Olympus’s crystal-studded camera
By Emily Price
Olympus has announced the new Olympus 1040 Crystal. The compact, black, limited-edition digital camera has a total of 98 Crystallized Swarovski elements on the front bringing a bit more style to your picture taking.
In addition to looking good, the camera is also designed to take good pictures. The 1040 Crystal can take photographs at a 10 megapixel resolution and has a 3x optical zoom.
The camera also has face detection, which has become a trend in digital cameras over the past year. Face detection allows the camera to recognize up to 16 faces in a frame and adjust accordingly so that everyone looks the best they can. The camera has digital image stabilization, a True Pic III image processor, and VGA movie recording with sound. All of the pictures on the camera are saved onto xD-picture cards or microSD cards.
The Olympus 1040 Crystal is available now in limited quantities in London for around 175 pounds.
Why is it that companies always take their crap products and cover them in gems to make them more expensive? I have to admit that this is the first digital cameras I’ve ever seen that someone has tried to make fancy with crystals, but several cell phone manufacturers and other electronics makers have versions of their low-end devices covered in high end décor to make them more expensive.
Why not take a really nice camera model and cover it in crystals? I think it’s slightly ignorant to think that the clientele who would want a camera that looks high-end would not want a camera that was actually high-end. I guess to some extent that would make an already horribly expensive camera even more so, but if you’re buying a camera with crystals on it…chances are you have the money.
Would any of you buy one of these cameras?
