By Emily Price
Olympus has unveiled three new digital cameras. All three of the new camera models are expected to ship in October, and each one caters to a specific type of digital camera customer.
Here’s a rundown of the three new digital camera models:
Olympus 1050 SW
The Olympus 1050 SW is a new weatherproof addition to Olympus’s digital camera line. The camera is designed to work in up to 10 feet of water and in other typically non-friendly camera environments. For instance the camera can work in temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and can survive a drop of up to 5 feet.
One exceptionally unique feature of the 1050 SW is that it uses an accelerometer to take pictures. A camera user can tap the sides of the camera in order to change particular camera settings. The idea behind the technology is people in “rugged” situations (like 14 degrees Fahrenheit might not want to take off their gloves to fiddle with their camera controls, the camera tries to make it a little easier to get the perfect shot, when you might not have both your hands available.
The 1050 SW takes 10.1 megapixel photographs, has a 2.7-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom and will be available in October for $299 in blue, silver, black, and champagne.
Olympus SP-565 UZ
The Olympus SP-565 is designed for consumers who want to use a lot of zoom in their pictures. The camera claims to be “the world’s most powerful ultra-zoom digital camera” with a 10x zoom lens. The camera has a 2.5-inch LCD, and will be available in October for $399.95.
Olympus Stylus 1040
The Olympus Stylus 1040 is the thinnest camera in Olympus’s digital camera line. The .65-inch thick digital camera takes photos at a 10.1-megapixel resolution and has a 2.7-inch LCD. The camera has face and smile detection and will be available in October for $99.99 in black and silver.
