Canon unveils three new consumer cameras

By Emily Price

Canon has announced three new digital cameras to its consumer line. The cameras range from $200 to $300 in price and are geared more towards entry level camera buyers. All three cameras have an “easy mode” which limits the functions available on the camera to simplify the digital camera user experience for people who may be less familiar with their camera.

Al three of the cameras also use Canon’s DIGIC III Image Processors which have red-eye correction, and use Canon’s motion detection and face detection technology. All three of the cameras run on AA batteries, so batteries can be easily replaced while you’re on the go. The all also come with a 32MB memory card, USB cable, AV cable, wrist strap, and Canon’s software suite included.

Yuichi Ishizauka, senior vice president and general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon said ” With the new A-Series cameras, users don’t have to sacrifice cutting-edge technology for innovative style, or ease-of-use… These cameras include the best technology Canon has to offer, along with colorful and unique designs that pack today’s lifestyle trends into an affordable, compact digital camera. Additionally, the new SX camera is the ultimate in compact functionality. This camera will meet the technology needs of beginners and photo enthusiasts alike.”

Here’s a rundown of the three new cameras and what they have to offer:

What is the deal with the free 32MB memory card? I think Canon should be embarrassed for including this, especially on a 10 megapixel. Seriously, I read the cool features like DIGIC III and face and motion detection. Then when I got to the free 32MB card it kind of ruined the mood.

Digital cameras never come with large memory cards, I think the idea is you will purchase the size you need/want with the camera.
