SmugMug and Eye-Fi announce partnership
SmugMug is now working with wireless card creator Eye-Fi to offer free geo-tagging and hotspot access for SmugMug members. Use of the service only requires that SmugMug members he using an Eye-Fi Share or original Eye-Fi memory card in their cameras.
The partnership between SmugMug and Eye-Fi isn’t the first partnership Eye-Fi has made with an online photo sharing site. In late July Eye-Fi announced a partnership with Adobe, Nikon, and Circuit City. That partnership allowed Eye-Fi card owners to upload their photos to Adobe Photoshop Express, and Nikon’s MyPicturetown for photo editing.
The SmugMug partnership is just another option for photographers who want to share their pictures on the web. In addition to hosting online galleries, SmugMug also allows users to print gifts with their photos on themsuch as greeting cards, photo mugs, buttons, and canvas prints, and offers a Geotagging and uploading applications for the iPhone that allows users to instantly geotag their iPhone photos and upload them to the site for sharing with others.
Chris MacAskill, the president and co-founder of SmugMug said ” “SmugMug users who have Eye-Fi cards love how easy it is to upload photos and share those memories in cool ways on our site. Our photo map has become extremely popular and sets us apart from other online sharing sites…This opportunity makes it even easier for people to spend more time enjoying their photos, and less time uploading and tagging their images.”
All of these recent partnerships certainly put Eye-Fi’s cards in the spotlight. The cards are currently only available at Circuit City stores in my area, but they could certainly be purchased online from anywhere in the world. If I was looking to make another memory card purchase I would definitely give the cards a look, if only for what they can do for you.
How many of you geotag your photos currently? Are you interested in purchasing a card that does all the geotagging for you?
