Picwing social digital photo frame

August 17, 2008

Picwing launched last Friday. The site is essentially a photo-sharing site with a twist: it allows you to send your photos wirelessly to a digital photo frame in your home directly from the site.

For all intents and purposes the site seems sort of like any other photo sharing sites. You can upload your photos into albums, and then friends and family members can browse through them. Photos can be uploaded directly from your PC or emailed to the service and added to your album.

What makes Picwing a little different is that you can send your pictures to a digital photo frame as well. In theory you could buy grandma a photo frame, and then update it with new pictures of the grandkids and family vacations and what not right after you take them. The photo frame idea is definitely a pretty cool one, and would make sharing digital photos with people who may not be as tech savvy as the rest of us much easier.

TechCrunch pointed out that while most digital photo frames are priced around $100-$200 the Picwing photo frame has a whopping $249 price tag. The screen on the picture frame is also only 7-inches big. If grandma lives down the street you might be better served to buy her a bigger cheaper frame and then update photos when you go for a visit.

Photos are uploaded to the frame via email however, which could make it a really awesome thing to pass out to your friends. “Hey email me the pictures on my photo frame” and have photographs instantly start showing up on your desk at work, although that definitely lends itself to getting few that are not exactly desirable to have on your desk at work.- Picwing doesn’t mention how or if you can delete photos off the frame itself. Theoretically, it has to be an option.

What do you think about the Picwing frame? Would you buy one?

I’m Eddie, one of the founders and we’re thrilled to have you write about us! While you can’t currently delete pictures from the frame itself, you can actually delete and manage all of your pictures on your photo frame at http://www.picwing.com. Our belief is that managing your pictures is much easier when done on a website on your computer rather than on the actual frame itself.
