Poloroid working on point and print digital camera
Polaroid has created a point and shoot digital camera with a bit of an old school feel. The company is reportedly working on creating a digital camera with photo printer attached that will look like the original Polaroid from years past.
The camera will be designed in the tradition of Polaroid’s of the past; the bottom part of the camera will be Polaroid’s new PoGo Bluetooth printer, and top will be a digital camera. In theory you will be able to take photographs with the digital camera and them immediately print them out using the attached print in Polaroid fashion. Photographs will be 4×3inches in size, the same size that was printed by the original Polaroid cameras.
In an article in Amateur Photographer magazine readers have been given the opportunity to contribute to the shaping of the device by making their own suggestions on what should be included.
Polaroid plans on taking the suggestions on things such as pixel count, print quality, and the battery’s print capacity and then use those to shape the new device. The person who makes the best suggestions will win a trip to NYC and VIP tickets to the Museum of Modern Art. All of those who enter will have the opportunity to win one of 100 of the cameras that Polaroid has to give away or one of 50 Polaroid digital photo frames.
I’ve got to admit that while I probably won’t buy one of these, I’m pretty excited about the idea of one. I can remember having a lot of fun with Polaroid’s growing up. There’s something about the ability to print your pictures right then and there that’s appealing. With today’s digital cameras you can attach them to a printer at home and make prints pretty instantly, but it’s not the same thing. It’ll be interesting to see what the camera looks like come release time.
