Web-based photo editing, not just for professionals

Web-based photo editing, not just for professionals There seems to be plenty of high-end software available for photography professionals, but when it comes to having that high-end functionality without the professional designation- it’s harder to find.  LiveEdit.com has been around for some time, but only available to photography and advertising professionals in the past.  Such is not the case now that it’s been opened to the public.

According to the company, “LiveEdit saves time, labor and cost, while allowing you to impress your clients. Finally a web-based program that can consolidate all your workflow needs.  LiveEdit is a premier online presentation tool for today’s photographer.  Organize your digital files, give your clients instant access to your shoots, edit and mark-up your pictures, archive, share or sell your images – all in one application."

By being web-based, LiveEdit aims to streamline the photographic image workflow as much as possible, while still including the advanced toolset photographers are used to.  It can save time, money, labor, and resources using a web-based version as well.  Everything is automatically saved and backed-up, and accessible from anywhere.

Both photographers and clients can access images during the entire process, as well as be included in shoots in real-time which provides a unique experience for any client.  As a photographer, having any kind of "gimmick" like this can help your cause in the long run.  Images can be marked up for later retouching and editing, shared and stored in customized "lightboxes," as well as archived effortlessly. The sleek LiveEdit interface can even be customized with your own logos, borders, footers, etc. to give it a personal touch.

Users can even load LiveEdit on to their iPhones and get their work done while on the go.  Pretty cool, but I wonder what functionality is lost using the iPhone.  The service is not cheap, but is affordable when compared to other high-end photo editing tools.  Pricing starts at $395 a year, and there’s a free 15 day trial version available if you want to try it out before you buy.

I think there’s only a select few professionals that would steer away from the classic editing software to try something new.  Once photographers get used to using something, it’s hard to justify learning a whole new software platform.  LiveEdit must be worth it, as Proctor and Gamble, L’oreal, and InStyle are all using it.
