Nikon announces six new cameras

By Emily Price

Nikon has announced six new digital cameras. All six cameras are going to be part of the companies Coolpix line and will be rocking some features new to Nikon cameras such as blink warning, smile mode, and a scene auto selector mode.

Scene Auto Selector Mode

With the scene auto selector mode your camera will look at picture you’re about to take and auto select a scene mode to best complement that particular shot.

Blink Warning

This is a feature that’s starting to show up in a few consumer digital cameras. The blink warning will detect if someone was blinking when you take a picture, and then automatically retake the picture immediately after the original shot if someone’s eyes were closed.

Smile Mode

Smile mode is something I haven’t seen on digital cameras before. The smile mode supposedly will wait to take your picture until everyone in the photo is smiling. I predict we’re going to see a bunch of problems with the blink warning, but even more with smile detection…it’ll be interesting to see how that works out.

The specific models announced by Nikon are:

Coolpix S60

This 10 megapixel camera has a 3.5 inch touch LCD that takes up almost the entire back of the camera. The S60 will be released in black, red, white, burgundy, pink and bronze with an MSRP of $349.95.

Coolpix P6000

The Coolpix P6000 is a 13.5 megapixel camera with a built-in GPS that saves information about where you are when you take a particular shot. The camera has a built-in Ethernet port as well, so you can upload your photos to the web directly without going through a computer.

Coolpix S610

The Coolpix S610 has a 10 megapixel resolution, and a 3-inch LCD. Nolin announced both the S610 and the S610c. the only difference between the two cameras is that the S610c will have built-in Wi-Fi support. The S610 has an MSRP of $279.95, and the S610c has an MSRP of $329.95.

Coolpix S560

The S560 is a 10 megapixel camer with a 2.7 inch LCD. The camera will be available in black, blue, and red for an MSRP of $249.95.
