Sony announces the T700 and T77 with blink detection

By Emily Price

Sony announces the T700 and T77 with blink detectionSony announced two new digital cameras this morning the DSC-T700 and the DSC-T77. Both digital cameras sport a 10.1 megapixel resolution, touch screen LCD’s and more importantly Sony’s blink detection and “Smile Shutter” functionality.

The blink detection in these cameras in my option is really what makes them special. The function is designed to warn you when someone’s eyes are closed when you take a picture. If the camera detects closed eyes it will take another picture automatically after the first one to try and catch everybody with their eyes open.

Sony DSC-T700

The DSC-T700 will have a 3.5-inch LCD screen and a 4x optical zoom. The T700 is going to have 4GB of built-in memory, which is pretty unusual for consumer digital camera and especially ones at a resolution as high as 10 megapixels. The DSC-T700 will be available in silver, gold, black, red, and pink.

Sony DSC-T77

The DSC-T77 is the thinnest digital camera in Sony’s lineup. The camera will have a 3-inch LCD screen and a 4x optical zoom. Unlike the T700,the T77 will not have any built-in memory to store pictures and will instead rely entirely on saving pictures to removable memory cards. The DSC-T77 will be available in brown. Pink, black, silver, and green.

I’m really excited to see how the blink detection works on these cameras. If it works the way Sony claims it will, then it could be a great feature to have, and could save you having those pictures that would have been great if only everyone’s eyes were open.

Look for both cameras to become available in stores toward the end of September this year. The T700 with built-in memory is expected to sell for around $400, where as the smaller T77 will sell for around $300.
