Nikon Coolpix P60 sharpens the cutting edge of point-and-shoot cameras The Nikon Coolpix P60 is a point-and-shoot digital camera designed for the traditional camera enthusiast.

Priced at US$229.95 the Coolpix P60 features an improved 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens that delivers more flexibility by ably covering a range from panoramic landscapes to close-up portraits.

According to Nikon, the Coolpix P60 delivers “solid photographic performance, functional styling and an advanced feature set for excellent photos”.

What the manufacturer says:

Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, the COOLPIX P60 realizes optimum performance and maximum image quality.

What users and reviewers are saying:

“We think the Nikon Coolpix P60 camera will perform similarly to the earlier P50, which is $30 less now. At an original retail price of $229.95, the P60 ups the optical zoom to 5x, and has lens shifting image stabilization.”- Karen Cheung

“Taking on the popular Canon A720 IS with its update to the P50, Nikon’s Coolpix P60 includes some nontrivial enhancements, including optical image stabilization (Vibration Reduction, or VR), an electronic viewfinder (which is unusual in a non-megazoom)”-ZDNet

Our comment:

With a minor price difference with that of its predecessor, the Coolpix P50, the P60 may not offer something drastically new. But if the 5x Nikkor Zoom lens is a big factor, users may very well go for an upgrade. For those who are looking for a new point-and-shoot camera under the Nikon performance model, the P60 maybe a good choice.
