Nikon Coolpix P50: An affordable alternative to the P5100

The Nikon Coolpix P50 is a compact digital camera designed for prosumers who are looking for a budget priced alternative to Nikon’s Coolpix P5100.
Priced at US$229 the Coolpix P50 is a light and compact 8mp camera with a larger handgrip than the P5100.
According to Nikon, the Coolpix P50 brings true photo enjoyment through its photographic performance, advanced features, familiar handling and operating ease.
Key features include:
- 8.1 Megapixels, 1/ 2.5” CCD
- Macro allows photography from 5 cm to infinity
- 3x optical zoom
- Focal length 4.7-17.0mm (35mm equivalent 28-102mm)
- 64-2000 ISO (sensitivity)
- 2.4 in. TFT LCD screen (115,000 pixels)
- 40 shots with alkaline, 580 shots with lithium or 330 shots with EN-MH1 batteries shots per battery charge
- Takes SD/SDHC MEDIA
- 160 grams
- Dimensions of 94.5 mm x 66 mm x 44 mm (W x H x D)
- Electronic VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization compensates for camera shake or movement by unsteady subjects; extended light sensitivity up to ISO 2000 further helps prevent blurred shots when shooting in lower light, or when capturing fast-moving subjects

Our comment:
The Nikon Coolpix P50 would seem to be a good buy for those who are on tight budget but want to have a good, reliable and affordable powerpacked digital camera. It would have been better though if other color varieties where available aside from the usual black and silver to attract the younger generation of consumers.
