Pentax set to launch new Optio series cameras in September

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Pentax set to launch new Optio series in September Pentax has announced two new digital cameras belonging to its Optio series.  The new cameras will feature increased megapixels and one offers longer zooms however, as seen with the GE E850 things may appear better on paper.

The Optio Z10 will feature an 8 megapixel sensor coupled to a 7x optical zoom with digital image stabalization as opposed to the superior optical image stabalization systems offered on other cameras.  The Optio S10 features a tiny and cramped 10 megapixel sensor (translate as more noisy images), 3x optical zoom and the ability to shoot MPEG4 video.

Both cameras share a 2.5 inch LCD display, facial recognition, SDHC memory card compatibilities and a $250 price tag.  Though, you’ll probably do better with a cheaper lower megapixel model, as I’ve said before cramming more megapixels onto tiny CCD sensors is not the answer for improved image quality or camera speed.
