Sony introduces automatic panoramic camera

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Sony introduces automatic panoramic camera Most cameras include a feature called “stitch” mode which will allow you to compose panoramic shots of sorts but Sony’s new prototype takes the guesswork out and is fully automatic, all you need is a flat surface.

The new camera looks like a top and that’s exactly what it does.  Set it down on a flat surface, extend the stand, press a button and off it goes spinning around in a circle, taking images at the appropriate interval for a 360 degree image.

As with all Sony devices it makes use of the proprietary memory stick card format.  If you get tired of taking those panoramic shots, it can also record video.  Specs regarding either the still image resolution or video resolution were not available as it’s still a prototype and no pricing information was released.

It’s even questionable if this will actually hit the consumer market any time soon.  This camera pretty much has one function and one function only which is to take panoramic shots, I don’t see many people buying this unless that’s the type of photography they do.
