A few years ago, I wouldn’t have even bothered with a Samsung camera but they are coming up in the rankings, they aren’t at the top, I don’t think they ever will be but I’d be surprised if the company won’t make the top 5 at some point. To that it has released two new 8 megapixel cameras under $300.

Pentax might be able to make a decent SLR camera but when it comes to point and shoot models, I question the quality. Companies have just one chance to impress me and Pentax failed on that count, the one and only Pentax point and shoot digital camera I tried was returned for a refund, maybe the company can redeem itself with two new Optio models it just announced.

Casio has been collaborating with Google which owns YouTube to develop digital cameras that capture YouTube optimized video and come with software that can upload the videos to your account with a single click.

General Electric isn’t the first name one thinks of when someone mentions digital cameras. It has decided to enter the digital camera market with several models, the E850 being at the bottom of the E series offering 8 megapixels for $200, it’s almost too good to be true.

There is one thing Ricoh knows how to do. It sure knows how to make a compact digital that is out of the box. But I mean that in a good way. This is certainly true of the Caplio GX 100. I have been a very outspoken fan of the Ricoh GR digital, but the Caplio GX100 is another reason to just love how they design a compact digital camera.

Available light photography has always been a difficult arena for photographers. There has always been a play off between slow shutter speeds, minimal depth of field, film grain or digital noise due to the need for a high ISO medium. One of the advancements made possible by digital photography has been the advent of anti-shake technology in the latest range of digital cameras.
