General Electric offers 8 megapixel E850 digital camera for $200

General Electric offers 8 megapixel E850 digital camera for $200 General Electric isn’t the first name one thinks of when someone mentions digital cameras. It has decided to enter the digital camera market with several models, the E850 being at the bottom of the E series offering 8 megapixels for $200, it’s almost too good to be true.

The GE E850 brings to the party a large 3 inch LCD display, 8 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom and electronic image stabilization (by using higher ISO settings).

It has lots of features not common in digital cameras at the $200 price point. But performance and image quality can be called into question. As of this time there are almost no reviews to speak of.

GE is not an established name in the consumer digital camera market, these are the first digital cameras to come from them and while feature rich may be lacking in every respect that matters.

The other models in the E series include the E1030 with 10 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom but a smaller 2.7 inch display. After the E1030 is the E1040 with the same sensor as the E1030 but offers a 3 inch display and a 4x optical zoom. The E1240 is the same but offers 12 megapixels.

The E850 is limited to ISO1600 while the E10xx and E12xx models offer up to ISO3200 but I wouldn?t swear to the image quality of those at such high settings.

Still, the E850 offers a 5x optical zoom beginning at a focal length of 28mm (35mm equivalent) which I like in a camera. I still question the quality of its optics, its sensor and its processor.

Those in need of a compact digital camera with a 28mm wide angle lens are best to purchase the PowerShot SD800IS which “only” has 7.1 megapixels but does have a 28mm wide angle lens but a shorter 3.8x zoom range and offers optical image stabilization so you won?t need those higher ISO settings (which tend to add noise to pictures anyway).

You can buy two of the GE850s for the same retail price as a Canon SD800IS but Canon is an established name with excellent optics and image processors. GE is unknown on both counts.

  4. PhotoGraphicsPla.net - General Electric debutta con 8 megapixel:

Blorge.
