New 18x Zoom in the Olympus SP 550UZ
Olympus Imagine has announced the latest update in its ultra-zoom range of digital compact cameras – the SP-550UZ.
In addition to advanced dual shakeproof technology for worry-free telephoto and lowlight shooting, the SP-550UZ boasts a high light sensitivity at ISO5000 and now features the world’s largest optical zoom at 18X – which can take your photos halfway to the moon!
The SP-550UZ supports a wide range of photography, from wide-angle shooting with a focal distance of 28mm*1 to telephoto shooting up to 504mm.
This all-in-one camera is capable of macro photography from as close as 1cm, and by combining the optical and digital zoom systems, it can provide telephoto powers up to 100x.
With its lens boasting the full range of photographic technology, Olympus has created a single camera with photographic capabilities ranging from close-up to long-distance. Dual shakeproof technology means you can forget blurry images due to shaking cameras or subject motion, the SP-550UZ uses a CCD-shift image stablisation system and a sensitivity setting of ISO1600 to dramatically reduce the problem!
A built-in flash system also provides illumination for distances of up to 22.7 metres ensuring your subject will be lit even when it’s metres away!
A new high-speed continuous shooting feature allows the user to take up to 15 frames per second so you can pick the best shot, while a unique pre-capture mode allows the camera to store images immediately before the shutter button is pressed – meaning you shouldn’t lose that crucial shot even if you’re surprised by a sudden action shot.
With a basic black design epitomising strength, functionality and sophistication, the SP- 550UZ is covered in a suede-like material to allow for enhanced ease-of-use and fits perfectly into the hands of all kinds of photographers – no matter what they’re normally used to using. It’s also conveniently similar in size to its predecessor the SP-510UZ – despite boasting a much more powerful 18x zoom.
Olympus has used advanced lens development technology to create an 18x zoom lens which supports a wide range of photography ranging from wide-angle shooting with a focal distance of 28mm for stunning landscapes to telephoto shooting up to 504mm. When the optical zoom is used in tandem with the digital zoom photography of up to 100x (2800mm) is possible. For example, if you were taking a photo of the moon using the optical 18x zoom, it would fill about one-fifth of the frame vertically, but combine both the powerful optical and digital zooms and the diameter of the moon will fill the entire frame! But don’t let that discourage you from capturing the little things, the SP- 550UZ also supports macro-photography at distances as close as 1cm for truly amazing close-ups
Dual Shakeproof
Shaky hands, subject movement or unstable surfaces can often spell peril for photographers, but using the Olympus SP-550UZ’s CCD-shift image stabilisation system and nightproof technology allows you to take high-sensitivity photography at ISO1600.
Even without a tripod, the Olympus SP-550UZ will capture blur-free images no matter if you’re shooting distant subjects and there’s poor lighting conditions. The Olympus SP- 550UZ can capture 7.1-megapixel images at ISO1600, and 3-megapixel images at an amazing ISO5000 while the exclusive TruePic TURBO image processor eliminates noise often associated with high-sensitivity photography.
High-Speed Sequential Shooting and Pre-Capture Mode
The SP-550UZ allows for high-speed sequential shooting*3 at 15 frames per second thanks to a newly developed rapid-action CCD. This feature allows the photographer to take multiple shots of scenes involving rapid motion, perfect for taking photos at
sporting events. The exciting new pre-capture mode on the Olympus SP-550UZ captures five frames before the shutter is fully released – meaning you’ll never miss a shot. By half depressing the shutter button when something is about to happen, photographers can be sure of capturing that moment even if the shutter is not fully released in time.
